Characteristics of superfine fibers
The reduction of fiber linear density endows the fiber with many superior properties beyond conventional natural fibers. It can be summarized as follows
(1) For multifilament or yarn with the same linear density, the more the number of single fibers, the higher the yarn strength.
(2) The smaller the linear density of single fiber, the lower the bending stiffness, the softer the handle of yarn and fabric, the better the drapability, and the advanced "writing effect".
(3) The smaller the single fiber diameter is, the larger the specific surface area of the fiber is, which enhances the adsorption, detergency, filtration performance and capillary effect.
(4) The smaller the diameter of a single fiber, the higher the density of the fabric per unit area, the better the fabric's warmth retention, and its waterproof and breathable properties. However, the reduction of linear density of single fiber will also bring some troubles, such as fast dye uptake, easy dyeing, large dye absorption, but poor color rendering and color fastness.
